From Seafaring Dreams to Digital Realities: Bryan’s Unexpected Pivot with eduCLaaS
For Bryan Francis Octaviano Encarnacion, the sea was once his dream. As a Senior High School student on the marine strand, his plan was crystal clear: become a seafarer through a Norwegian scholarship, travel the world, and build a stable career. But life had different plans. When the scholarship didn’t come through, Bryan found himself at a crossroads—unsure of what to do next.
That’s when he discovered eduCLaaS.
“I never thought I’d end up in tech. Maritime was my plan for years, and when that fell through, I was lost. But when eduCLaaS came to my school, it was like a door opened out of nowhere. I didn’t know what I was getting into, but I had this curiosity about technology and design—and that curiosity changed everything.”
Why He Didn’t Choose the Traditional Path
While his shift away from maritime might seem like a change of heart, Bryan’s decision was largely shaped by financial reality. Without a scholarship, university tuition felt out of reach, and he wasn’t ready to commit to another uncertain career path. But there was something about eduCLaaS that made sense: it was affordable, future-forward, and offered practical learning with a clear line of sight to employment.
Instead of spending years in lecture halls, Bryan saw an opportunity to learn by doing, in a way that felt more aligned with how he wanted to grow.
The Hands-On Path that Rewired His Thinking
Starting out in a tech course with no background in IT wasn’t easy. The first few modules of the BSIT major in Software Engineering hit hard—Bryan describes it as a culture shock. The shift from marine lessons to coding logic and assessments was jarring. But that shock soon turned into growth.
“I didn’t expect it to be this challenging. The first module was rough, and the assessments pushed me to my limits. But that struggle taught me discipline, focus, and most importantly, how to think and communicate like a professional. You can’t just deliver 80% in the real world—companies expect you to show up with excellence.”
The program taught him more than just technical skills—it reshaped his mindset. From understanding how to interact with supervisors to writing emails and collaborating on projects, Bryan learned the nuances of professionalism in a remote corporate environment.
From the Outside, It Looks Easy—But It’s Not
Bryan’s friends in traditional universities often joke about how lucky he is to study from home. They envy the flexibility, the lack of commute, and the autonomy. But Bryan is quick to clarify that his path isn’t easier—just different.
While they memorize theories, he’s out there solving real-world problems. While they prepare for midterms, he’s building portfolios and practicing mock interviews. The pressure is different, but the learning is deep and immersive.
“They think I’m chilling at home, but the reality is, I’m facing a completely different kind of challenge. I’m working on actual deliverables, following deadlines, presenting my work, and learning how to think critically. This isn’t spoon-fed education—it’s professional preparation.”
Redefining His Future in Tech
Today, Bryan is no longer chasing a maritime dream. He’s building a new vision—one where he’s digitally empowered, professionally confident, and ready to contribute to the modern workforce. The unexpected shift to eduCLaaS didn’t just reroute his career path—it redefined his purpose.
