Kay’s Journey: From Traditional Education to Tech Apprenticeship with eduCLaaS
From Traditional Limits to Tech Possibilities
Kyaw Naing Win, is a 20-year-old student from Yangon, Myanmar, who chose an unconventional route to education—one that prioritizes hands-on learning over traditional classroom lectures. Unlike many students who follow the well-trodden path of a Bachelor’s Degree, Kay found his passion in coding and pursued a work-integrated learning model through eduCLaaS a platform that bridges education and industry experience.
His journey wasn’t always smooth, but his persistence and adaptability allowed him to grow from a novice coder to a Technology Associate in just a few years.
From Average Student to Aspiring Developer
Growing up, Kay saw himself as an above-average student, but he admits he didn’t put in much effort during his school years.
“In school, I was average because I never put in much effort. But at eduCLaaS, I learned that real growth comes from hard work – and it changed everything”
This changed when he discovered coding during the COVID-19 pandemic. With extra time on his hands, he began learning basic programming concepts, sparking a passion that would shape his future. Unlike traditional education, which he found boring and rigid, coding provided him with excitement and a sense of achievement.
“Traditional college did not provide that much thrill… Before exams, they give me a sheet. We just read it, answer it, and that’s it. But coding gives me a fire to start something.”
This realization led him to eduCLaaS.
Challenges and Growth in the Bootcamp
Kay’s journey wasn’t without struggles. His first module in the Bachelor’s Degree bootcamp was particularly challenging.
“Module one is very difficult for me… I just gone through a lot of difficulty to try to understand a block of code.”
However, as he progressed, he gained confidence. By Module 4, he was comfortable with both front-end and back-end development, eventually working on industry projects using PHP Laravel and Java Spring.
One of his biggest achievements was transitioning from a front-end-focused developer to a full-stack apprentice.
“During my boot camp, I didn’t really understand the back-end part… But now, I am like a full-stack developer—not at a master level, but at an apprentice level.”
This growth didn’t come easily. He spent months learning new frameworks and debugging errors, but the satisfaction of solving problems kept him motivated.
The Apprenticeship: Real-World Experience
After completing his boot camp, Kay began his apprenticeship as a Technology Associate, working with Microsoft Power Apps, Power Automate, and Copilot.
“First, it was tricky… It took me about 15 days to understand how Microsoft tools work. But after training and YouTube tutorials, I got the hang of it.”
Compared to his school days, Kay noticed a significant improvement in his collaboration and communication skills. Though he describes himself as an introvert, working in a team environment helped him open up.
“Compared to my younger self, this is my better version.”
Future Goals: Balancing Coding and Trading
While Kay is committed to his tech career, he also has a keen interest in stock trading and cryptocurrency.
“I think I’m going to become a coder and also a trader… It’s 50% aligned with my future.”
He acknowledges that he’s still at the beginning of his journey and has much more to learn, including Python, JavaScript, and Angular.
Advice for Aspiring Tech Students
Kay’s biggest piece of advice for students is simple: Finish what you start.
“Most students withdraw when they just started… I want them to put in hard work to achieve what they began.”
He observed that many of his peers dropped out of the program due to frustration or shifting interests. However, he believes that persistence is key—learning doesn’t happen overnight, and the real growth comes from pushing through challenges.
A Bright Future Ahead
Kyaw Naing Win’s journey proves that education doesn’t have to follow a conventional path, and personalized, hands-on learning does provide a viable and rewarding path for students who don’t thrive in traditional settings.
From struggling with his first line of code to becoming a full-stack apprentice, Kay’s story is a testament to the power of hands-on learning, perseverance, and adaptability.
For students considering a non-traditional route, his message is clear:
“If you start something, see it through. The reward is worth the struggle.”
