Inclusive Digital Transformation Through Work-Integrated Learning

Makati, Philippines, 7 February 2023 – eduCLaaS proudly co-organises The Philippines Future Skills Summit 2023 with an overarching theme ‘Building Future-Ready Workforce’. This summit is hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), supported by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Information and Communications Technology, Philippine Trade Trading Center – Global MSME Academy, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), with Confexhub as one of the co-organisers.

The Philippines Future Skills Summit 2023 supports the ASEAN’s digital transformation plans to increase the region’s digital readiness and competitiveness. Through a series of keynote speakers and presenters, the summit aims to identify and address the digital gap and explore discussions on how to achieve an inclusive and collaborative digital future for all.

Honourable Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual formally opens the Philippines Future Skills Summit. In his inaugural address via a pre-recorded video message, he emphasizes the pressing need to equip the Philippine workforce with the necessary digital skills to succeed in today’s rapidly changing world. Mr. Tonisito Machiavelli C. Umali, TESDA’s Deputy Director General for Legal and Legislative Affairs, shares his insights on the role of enterprise-based programs in boosting youth employability. Lastly, Ms. Mary Sylvette T. Gunigundo, CHED’s Director of the Office of Planning, Research and Knowledge Management (OPRKM) provides an update on CHED’s plans for digital transformation, with a focus on developing the digital transformation roadmap for Philippine Higher Education.

With the goal of driving the digitalization of the country, the Philippines Future Skill Summit 2023 serves as a platform to discuss and launch a suite of innovative initiatives aimed at upskilling the workforce and ensuring inclusive growth in the Philippines.

To highlight the crucial role of innovation, eduCLaaS Founder and CEO, Mr Leslie Loh delivers his plenary address entitled, “Bridging the Digital Skills Gap through Innovative Learning Solutions.” Mr. Loh puts forward the importance of a tripartite partnership between the public, private, and non-profit sectors to bridge the disconnect between education and the workplace. He presents a clear vision of a converged future of learning and work ecosystem that prioritizes inclusivity and diversity. By addressing the digital skills gap, Mr. Loh hopes to help shape a more equitable future for learners worldwide.

Mr. Leslie Loh further leads a panel discussion with Prof. Dr. Lily Chan, Vice Chancellor of Wawasan Open University, Prof. Vicente Antonio Vallejo Pijano III, COO/Chancellor of Philippine Women’s College of Davao, Dr. Patricia B. Lagunda, President of Baliuag University, Prof. Arvind Choubey, Director of Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhagalpur, and Dr. Guillermo Rodante C. Estrellado, Administrator, President LAPPRISADA of Luis Bernardo Memorial Highschool.

The panel discussion illustrates how eduCLaaS as a dual-track applied learning platform, supported by a glocalized digital skills coalition, connects post-secondary students, working adults, enterprises, employers, higher education institutions, industry experts, government, non-profit agencies, and technology vendors to deliver inclusive digital skilling with interdisciplinary curriculum, work-integrated learning, interoperable credentials, blended learning technologies, employer ecosystem, and co-financing support for bridging digital divide and rising inequality at scale across Asia.
